Projects close to our hearts

We, disana, have been socially and ecologically committed for many years. We do this out of deepest conviction.

We would like to present one of our favourite projects here.

Casa Mantay

CASA MANTAY is located in Cusco, the ancient Inca capital in Peru. ‘Mantay’ is Quechua and means mum. And that is exactly what CASA MANTAY is - a house for mothers and their children. Mothers who are far too young. It is a refuge for underage, unintentionally pregnant girls. This pregnancy is often accompanied by a break with the family and a complete social decline. At CASA MANTAY, these young women receive protection, a roof over their heads, medical help and psychological support. And ultimately a new home for themselves and their child.

Almost children themselves, they learn how to look after a baby there. They learn to cook, run a household, go to school and then complete an apprenticeship. The foundation for a decent job and a self-determined life.

We were allowed to be part of it.

We got to know CASA MANTAY through our friend Barbara. Barbara lives in Cusco and works on a voluntary basis as a naturopath at CASA MANTAY. Together with other volunteers and employees, she looks after the well-being of the mothers and their children. We were able to visit CASA MANTAY with her in 2022 and let ourselves be infected by the cheerfulness of this place. We danced, laughed and cooked for everyone. A day that made a deep impression and was great fun, and not just for us.

Insights into the work of Casa Mantay

The workshops are a special feature of CASA MANTAY. Here, the young women can not only work under professional guidance, but also receive training. In addition to a silver and leather workshop, there is a floristry workshop and a ceramics workshop that is currently being set up.

Barbara has founded the association ‘Mantay Peru e.V.’, which endeavours to raise donations for CASA MANTAY in Germany. We are happy to support her in this endeavour, as we are convinced that this facility will make our world a slightly better place.
